Paid Versus Free Traffic Techniques

November 19th, 2008

Some webmasters feel that paid traffic methods are more effective and efficient than free traffic methods, but that’s not always true. Some free methods can be just as powerful as paid traffic. You should combine both paid and free traffic generation if you want to get the most out of your online efforts, but it’s not always necessary to use paid traffic, especially if you’re just starting out.

But each method has its strengths and weaknesses, and neither is necessarily better than the other. Sometimes one method will work better for one person, but not for another. Some common methods of paid traffic generation include pay-per-click advertising, banner advertising, co-registration, buying blog posts, and advertising on sites like Facebook.

Affiliate programs are also a form of paid traffic generation, but they have a lower barrier to entry than some paid methods because you don’t have to pay affiliates until they generate sales for you.

The biggest drawback to paid traffic generation is the fact that the cost can be quite prohibitive for new entrepreneurs. When you’re first starting out, you may not have a lot of cash available. But paid methods have certain benefits over free methods.

For example, paid traffic is often much easier to get in quantity and comes in faster than free traffic. You might be able to get 1,000 hits or more in a single day through a single AdWords campaign, but it might take you several weeks to collect that much traffic via free methods.

Paid traffic can often start pouring in just minutes after you set up a campaign. That’s very difficult to accomplish with free methods. Popular free methods of generating traffic include organic search engine traffic, article marketing, video marketing, social networking, social bookmarking, and forum marketing.

Most of these methods are relatively easy and cost no money to get started (unless you use your own domain and hosting). The main drawback to free traffic is that it often takes a long time to start working effectively.

Most of these methods bring in only a small trickle of traffic initially, and it takes a combination of many of these methods to get substantial traffic. The tradeoff is the fact that you don’t need any money to use these tactics.

You can use time instead of money to get your traffic. You don’t have to stick with free methods forever. You can use them to make enough money to finance paid methods later if you want.
The catch with using free methods is the fact that they still cost you time, which is valuable in its own right.

If you know how much your time is worth, you’ll be able to figure out approximately how much these “free” methods are really costing you, and that will be motivation to add paid methods to your marketing plan as soon as you can afford to do so.

Free traffic techniques are a very good way to get your feet wet and test markets. The seeds of free traffic that you plant will continue providing visitors for you long after they’re posted, whereas paid methods dry up as soon as you stop paying for them.

Many webmasters stop using free methods once they can afford to use paid traffic, but others find their ROI (return on investment) is better with free traffic. You should examine your own business in order to determine which methods work best for you, and continue using those that produce the best results.

Networking Opportunities to Help Grow Your Business

November 12th, 2008

Every online entrepreneur should know that networking is a powerful tool to help make your business grow. Just about every offline business has had to do it at one point. Every time you represent your business in a group of peers and potential clients, you’re creating exposure, interest, and building a buzz for your brand.

You’ve seen a bunch of Internet marketers partnering with other marketers, or maybe one would go to another’s webinar or phone into another’s teleseminar. When you have an expert in the field embracing another expert or calling in someone else for information, then what you create is an assurance and believability factor that solidifies one person’s expertise and another person’s willingness to expand their knowledge base.

There are a lot of ways to network with other marketers, and most of them aren’t difficult at all. Learning how to work yourself into the niche and to get people to respond to your ideas or thoughts is going to take time.

Before you network, make sure you take care of the basics. This would be your website, email address, and business cards. If you’re creative enough, you could design a really eye-catching business card and have a popular printing company print them out for you.

Make sure you do this at least a couple of weeks in advance so the cards can actually arrive and you proof them. Also, hire a professional to design your website. A little money spent here on a professional website can bring in a lot of revenue in the future because people trust professionalism.

One of the best ways to start out in networking is to attend live seminars and functions. If you see a marketer in your niche who’s having a function or get-together, you can be assured there are going to be some other marketers there.

When you attend, make sure you’re friendly, introduce yourself and give them your business card that will point to your website. When you make enough friends at live seminars, you’ll be asked to attend various other seminars, webinars, and teleseminars to speak on behalf of your niche.

People will already know who you are because of your initial exposure and introductions.
Another powerful way to bring your business to full maturity is to find forums where other marketers hang out and just start talking.

This is similar to going to a live function, but you don’t have to leave your house. You can chat, and in your forum profile or your signature file for the forum, you can have information and links that lead to your site.

While networking, you may run across other marketers that have a similar plan to yours. Use those to your advantage. Consider doing a Joint Venture with that person. Maybe one could develop the product and the other would promote it.

Don’t be afraid to brand yourself as an expert and reach out to other marketers. They’ll be doing you a favor by inviting you to speak to their audience, but you’ll be doing them a favor too – by bringing your expertise to the table for their subscribers.

Like do I need to get a federal identification number? Do I have to become a type of company ie., corporation, LLC etc. Do I need to get some kind of special license? Do I need to write a business plan? Can I still go to a bank for a business loan? If so, what type of information should I bring or have in place before I go?

Multiplying Your Product Media Formats

November 5th, 2008

Most information marketers have traditionally stuck with either the EXE format or the PDF format for their text-based products. While both of these formats have their merits, they’re becoming a bit outdated.

Many marketers have begun competing heavily on price, dragging the average price for an eBook down to the point where some customers now believe eBooks are only worth a couple of dollars at most.

Because of these changes, smart marketers are exploring other formats for their content. Many years ago, the classic EXE or PDF formats were really the only viable options for delivering information.

Most users had slow Internet connections, and downloading videos or even audio might have taken several days! But now that dialup Internet is the exception rather than the rule, more marketers are free to move their content into other media formats.

Audio has been popular for a few years, and video is rapidly gaining a foothold as one of the formats of choice for information products. With print-on-demand self-publishing companies like Lulu becoming more commonplace, more marketers are starting to sell their products in printed format, as well.

A lot of people print the PDF documents they buy anyway, so selling the product in print offers a great benefit to the buyer. Some customers prefer to read printed material rather than reading online, and some won’t even purchase a product that requires them to read it on their computer.

There are several fantastic benefits to producing your content in other formats. Perhaps the biggest benefit is the increase in perceived value. Consumers tend to believe that video content or print content is worth more than an eBook.

Because of the increase in perceived value, the price point can be increase significantly. Another major benefit to producing content in other media rich formats is the increase in sales you might see if you provide more options.

Remember, some people prefer one format over another. If you intend to sell a set of videos, you should keep in mind that some people don’t like watching videos. They actually prefer to read their content, because they can quickly skim it or easily go back and reread something important.

Others prefer video because it holds their attention or because it’s easier for them to understand and follow. If you’re going to offer sell information, it’s important to provide the content in multiple formats rather than just one.

By offering content in several different ways, you can appeal to a wide variety of your visitors and your chances of making a sale will increase. If you aren’t sure which formats you should offer, you might consider asking your market which formats they’d prefer for information products.

A simply survey or forum post could give you insight into the minds of your potential customers, and you’ll be able to tailor your offerings specifically to your market’s preferences. Or, start with text, and then record it into MP3s and turn the message into a marketing video and track which one gets the highest conversions.

How Should You Handle Customer Service on the Internet?

October 29th, 2008

Customer service in online businesses is more critical than offline businesses because there’s such a disconnect between the customer and the seller. This disconnect is present because of the very nature of the Internet – transactions that occur between the buyer and an automated seller, like a website.

How you conduct your customer service can add to or detract from your reputation, and in the online world, your reputation can stick with you a very long time. Because of search engines, people are able to see what others are saying about your business.

This makes it very important to provide the best possible customer service, so that you can keep your reputation intact. The last thing you need is for a disgruntled customer to be a prominent blogger in your niche and relay a horror story about you on their very popular blog!

The most common way Internet marketers handle customer service is by offering a customer service email address or basic contact form. This is probably the simplest way for the marketer to handle customer service, but it isn’t very effective for the customer.

Email often gets bounced or misdirected, or it gets sent to a spam box or accidentally deleted. Users can’t get verification that their email was actually received. Customers generally don’t like having to wait for an email to be answered.

A better option in the eye of most customers is to offer a customer service telephone number. Consumers appreciate being able to talk to a live human when they have a problem. Unfortunately, this method can be very inconvenient for the marketer, especially if they’re a one man or one-woman show.

Having to be available to answer telephone calls several hours per day is very inconvenient for a marketer who may already find it difficult to get enough done during the workday. A step up from a customer service telephone number is the help desk script.

These scripts allow customers to submit help request tickets via an online system. Many of these scripts give the customer a username and password so they can log in to find out whether their ticket has been read, read any responses, and post a reply with further information.

This is relatively convenient for the customer, and is generally very convenient for the marketer because they can answer questions when their schedule permits. Perhaps the best option is to hire a dedicated customer service agent or staff.

If you can’t afford to hire employees locally, you can outsource your customer service fairly inexpensively. A good virtual assistant can be trained to answer most general customer support inquiries, freeing you up to handle larger problems and concentrate on building your business.

Customers will appreciate having faster replies to their inquiries than you might be able to provide yourself, and you’ll love not having to deal with the minor and mundane issues that often arise again and again with various customers.

You should consider hiring someone to handle your customer service as soon as it’s financially feasible for you to do so. Your customers will appreciate it, and it will save you a great deal of time.

Hosting Events to Enhance Branding and Convert Sales

October 23rd, 2008

Hosting live events has been a very powerful method of establishing authority and gaining a loyal following for many years. Live seminars started becoming incredibly popular in the 1980s, and with the invention of the Internet came remarkable advancements on the classic seminar format.

These days you don’t need to rent a location or even get out of your pajamas to host a live event! You can host a teleseminar or webinar from anywhere in the world as long as you have access to a telephone and/or Internet connection.

You don’t have to leave your home or office, and attendees don’t need to travel, reserve a hotel room, or spend money on tickets. Hosting a webinar or teleseminar is also remarkably inexpensive compared to hosting a live event.

When you host a live event, you have to rent a space, pay for supplies, rent sound equipment, lighting, signage, supplies, and more. With a webinar or teleseminar, all you really need is the software or system to host the event - and a little time.

These live events have the power to establish you as an expert in your field. When you host an event, people automatically assume you must be important. When you answer their questions and give them valuable information for free, they start to trust and respect you. This type of publicity is invaluable, and it’s virtually free!

If you’re going to host an event, you first need to decide on a platform. Teleseminars are relatively easy to set up, but they offer a different type of interaction than a webinar. Teleseminars take place over the telephone, and it can be a little more difficult for everyone to communicate effectively.

Webinars offer more flexibility, because they generally take place in a chat format with the addition of audio from the hosts and sometimes the audience as well. This lets people interact more effectively, without drowning each other out.

Some webinars also have video available during the broadcast. Webinars seem to be more popular than teleseminars. Teleseminars are generally solely audio via telephone, which makes them less flexible and harder to moderate.

Webinars offer far more flexibility, because they can add additional features, such as the ability to use pictures or videos, live chat, and easier moderation. You should decide well in advance of your seminar what your topic will be.

You can’t just tell people you’re going to host a webinar about dog training. For most people, that’s far too general. You need to be more specific. Tell people something like, “We’re holding a live webinar where we’ll answer your most burning questions about how to housebreak your puppy quickly!”

The last thing you need to deal with is deciding how to get the word out about your event. If you have a mailing list, you should make at least two or three announcements during the week or two before the event. Build curiosity and excitement about the event. Be sure to remind people the day before the event and again the day of the event. The more people you get to attend, the better your attendance rate (and conversions) will be.

Here’s What’s in Every Marketing Guru’s Toolbox

October 14th, 2008

Every guru has an arsenal of tools they use on a regular basis. Without these tools, they wouldn’t be where they are now. Those that were still able to achieve the same level of success on their own would have found it much more difficult to reach their current level of success without the proper gear.

Each marketer probably has a different toolbox. Many marketing tools are well-suited for use in certain markets, but not others. One tool may be the perfect program for one marketer, but may be completely useless to another. But there are certain tools that almost every guru is certain to have in their arsenal.

The single most vital tool for almost every online marketer is probably a good keyword tool. You’ll find a plethora of keyword tools on the market. Some of them aren’t very good, with outdated or extremely inaccurate information. Others work very well, and can be one of the most important tools you could ever own.

Without a good keyword tool, you’ll find a lot of tasks to be difficult or nearly impossible. PPC (pay per click) campaigns rely almost exclusively on good keyword choices and an effective ad. Keyword research is absolutely vital to search engine optimization, too.

Without a good keyword tool, you won’t be able to effectively target the phrases your market is searching for, and your SEO efforts will go to waste. PPC marketers often find keyword spy tools to be particularly useful as well because it tells you exactly what the competition’s strategy is.

Website generators are used by many marketers. Although this tool may not be useful for someone who focuses exclusively on PPC or blogging, anyone who needs to build a large number of websites can benefit from having a good website generator.

Building dozens or hundreds of websites by hand would take weeks or months, but a good website generator can take a directory full of articles and create an attractive, fully-optimized website in just seconds.

With a powerful tool like this in your arsenal, you could be pumping out hundreds of sites in a week! For anyone whose business model focuses on having a large number of content sites, a good website generator can multiply their earnings exponentially.

Many marketers also have a good stockpile of graphics they can use for their sites. Aside from marketers who exclusively drive traffic straight to affiliate links through PPC, almost every marketer could benefit from a good package of templates, sales graphics, headers, or other marketing graphics.

Marketers who write their own articles or products will find a good word processor invaluable. Writing in a program like Notepad isn’t a good idea, because the higher functions that check spelling and grammar and export to various formats won’t be present.

Just like a doctor needs a stethoscope, a builder needs a hammer, and a lumberjack needs an axe or a chainsaw, a marketer needs an arsenal of tools that helps him or her do their job efficiently. Make sure your toolbox contains all of the tools you need to be as successful as you can be.

Dominating the SERPs with the Power of Web 2.0 Behind You

October 6th, 2008

Dominating the top results for multiple keyword phrases is a powerful way to corner a market, but it can be very difficult to do this using traditional traffic methods. If you’ve tried to get a single site to rank well in the search engines, you probably know how long it can take and how much work goes into it.

The problem is that new domains have no authority, and it takes time and work to gain enough backlinks and age the domain enough to get that kind of authority. Fortunately, there are already aged domains with a lot of authority that are available for you to use to gain multiple top ten rankings for the same keyword phrase, and it doesn’t cost you any money to use them!

Web 2.0 sites like Squidoo, HubPages, Ezine Articles, and Weebly can help you dominate the top rankings for long-tail keyword phrases, virtually eliminating most or all of your competition. You can drive other sites off of the first page and replace them with your own listings by simply making use of the massive authority held by these web 2.0 domains.

By harnessing the authority these domains already have, you can easily overtake competitor sites with less authority. The authority that the other webmasters would have to spend months building is already available for you to use instantly.

You don’t need to buy a domain or hosting, because the listings will be hosted on the web 2.0 sites for free. The technique for using these web 2.0 sites to dominate the SERPs is simple. You choose a keyword phrase with a decent level of search traffic and a reasonable level of competition, and then you make pages targeting that keyword on several different web 2.0 sites.

Because you’re creating your pages on domains that already have authority, a lot of the most difficult work will already be done for you. After your sites are made, you simply need to submit them to the various social bookmarking sites and add any RSS feeds to some RSS directories and ping the feeds with a service like Ping-O-Matic.

If you want to dominate the first page of Google, you’ll probably want to create at least 20 or 30 pages. This may end up letting you dominate most of the first and second pages, virtually shutting out most or all of your competition for that phrase.

This method is almost guaranteed to work if the keyword phrase you’re targeting has fewer than 10,000 results in Google when you search for it in quotes. If the phrase has 10,000 to 50,000 results, it’s still very likely that you’ll get several first page listings.

If the phrase has 50,000 to 100,000 results, you still have a relatively decent chance at grabbing a few first page listings. You may even be able to get a few first page listings for phrases over 100,000 results, depending on how much authority the existing first page listings have and how well they’ve managed their SEO.

Do You Know How to Create a Viral Traffic Storm?

September 30th, 2008

A viral production is one of the most powerful methods of gaining traffic, because it has the potential to spread like wildfire. A truly successful viral marketing campaign needs only a small initial boost and then it continues generating traffic on its own for quite awhile.

A viral marketing campaign is a method of generating traffic by having other people do most of the marketing for you. You create a particular marketing piece, and then you depend on the general public to spread the campaign for you.

Viral marketing can be incredibly inexpensive compared to other advertising methods, yet is one of the most powerful marketing strategies ever invented. Aside from the expense of creating the marketing campaign and initially distributing it to the public, there’s very little ongoing expense involved.

Creating the campaign is invariably the most difficult part of the process, because a campaign won’t go viral if the material produced isn’t worthy of being passed around. There are many things that can make a particular info product go viral.

Comedy is one of the most popular methods of developing viral marketing campaigns. People love to spread things that are funny, because they enjoy making other people laugh. Shocking items are also very popular candidates for being passed around. Highly educational or informative material is also passed around often.

The first thing you need to do is determine what the main purpose of your campaign will be. Do you want to generate sales directly? Are you looking more to brand your name or your company or product? Do you want to inform the public about a particular issue?

The type of campaign you’ll want to create will depend on the market, and the result you’re looking for. If you’re looking to generate direct sales from your campaign, you’ll probably want to keep it more serious and informative so the audience believes they’re getting true value for free.

If your main purpose is to sell a course about investing in real estate, your best bet is to create an informative video or eBook that details some of your most powerful secrets. It may seem counterintuitive to give away your best secrets, but the fact is that people will think, “Wow! If this is the information he’s giving away for FREE, how good will the full product be?”

Once you’ve created your viral campaign, you just need to get it into the hands of people who will spread it. All it will take is for your marketing piece to be seen by a few people with the will to spread the piece and the connections to do so and the item will quickly start to spread to others. Make sure your viral products include links back to your domains where you can build a list of everyone who received and enjoyed the information.

Dipping Into Squidoo for Social Marketing Money

September 24th, 2008

Squidoo has become a major powerhouse in the Internet marketing world, with thousands of active webmasters creating lenses every day. Squidoo is a web 2.0-style site that allows individuals to create one-page mini sites about practically any subject.

They not only allow marketing on the site, they encourage it. One of the most powerful reasons to use Squidoo for your marketing is the fact that they have pretty good authority in the search engines.

Many Squidoo lenses rank very high in the search engines for some pretty competitive phrases thanks to the site’s own PageRank of 7 out of 10. If you want to build a page on a site that already has built-in authority, Squidoo is a great place funnel a potent backlink to your domain.

Squidoo has many different monetization methods built in. They split AdSense revenue with the builder of the lens, as well as revenue for any of their optional monetization methods like Amazon and eBay.

Many people make a few hundred dollars per month just from the revenue sharing from these programs. Although it certainly is possible to make decent money solely through the built-in monetization methods, you can make far more money by promoting your own products or affiliate items.

You don’t have to share any of that revenue with Squidoo, so you have a much greater potential for making great money by using one of these methods to monetize your lenses. Promoting affiliate products is a really good way to get more money from your lenses.

Many people prefer to use outside affiliate products rather than those provided directly by Squidoo because they don’t have to share the revenue and because they have greater flexibility with the products they promote and how they’re presented.

Webmasters choose to promote digital goods like eBooks through places like ClickBank or PayDotCom. Others prefer to promote physical goods through sites like Commission Junction. And some decide to promote other options like membership sites, services, or CPA ads that pay for leads rather than sales.

Promoting your own product may have the most potential, because you get 100% of the sale price instead of just a small commission. Not only that, but if you sell your product with a service like PayPal, you can get paid right away instead of having to wait several weeks to receive a check from an affiliate program.

Plus, you’ll be able to create and promote products that many not already be available to promote. For example, if you create a lens about an obscure hobby, there may not be any affiliate programs available. If you create your own product, you may be one of the only products available in that niche. If there is enough traffic available, it could be very lucrative if you lens ranks well in the SERPs.

Bringing a Powerful Sales Team Onboard

September 16th, 2008

An affiliate program is one of the most powerful sales-generating tools an online entrepreneur can have. Affiliates have the power to generate sales for you 24 hours a day, 7 days week, while you concentrate on creating more products or managing your business.

An affiliate program gives you the power to receive traffic and sales without having to pay money up front or spend countless hours promoting your products yourself. Affiliate programs are relatively easy to run, and can be set up with very little initial investment.

Some affiliate scripts are very inexpensive, and you can also choose a hosted solution like ClickBank or e-Junkie to manage your affiliate program for you. Hosted solutions usually require either an up-front setup fee, an ongoing monthly fee, or they take a percentage of your sales.

Some hosted affiliate solutions may use a combination of these fees. A hosted solution is generally cheaper to get started with than buying your own script, but they usually offer a lot less flexibility and fewer features than some of the more robust scripts available for purchase.

There’s an additional benefit to using a hosted solution like ClickBank, especially if you haven’t yet built a reputation in your industry. Webmasters generally trust most of the hosted solutions to pay them, but they may be wary of individuals they’ve never heard of.

If you’re just getting started, you may find using a hosted solution helps give you credibility while you establish yourself in the industry. First, you need to decide what type of commission you want to pay.

Some people choose to offer a flat-rate commission per sale, some pay for clicks or leads, and some pay a percentage of the sale. The majority of affiliate programs these days pay a percentage of the sale.

If you’re selling physical products, you may only be able to offer a 4% or 5% commission in order to still clear enough profit. The Amazon affiliate program has done very well offering a very low commission, which proves that not all affiliates will avoid an affiliate program simply because it pays a very low percentage.

Of course, the greater the percentage, the more affiliates you’re likely to attract. If you’re selling digital products like eBooks or memberships to websites, then a higher commission is in order. You may have a hard time finding affiliates who are willing to accept 25% or less if you’re selling digital downloads, because these affiliates are aware that the profit margins on these items if far greater than for physical goods.

Most affiliates expect to receive at least 50% of the purchase price for digital products, and many program owners pay 60%, 75%, or even more in order to attract top sellers. Only you can decide what you feel comfortable paying your affiliates.

Finally, you need to make sure you provide the tools your affiliates will need to be successful. You’ll want to provide banners, sample PPC ads, emails, and viral reports for them to use. Affiliates who are provided the tools they need have an easier time making sales for you.

Always remember to promote your affiliate program. A lot of affiliate program owners make the mistake of waiting for affiliates to find them and start promoting them, and they spend all of their time and effort on promoting their own product. But for maximum efficiency, your time should be divided between promoting your product and finding affiliates to do the grunt work for you.

A Good Business Owner Safely Secures the Market

September 9th, 2008

Many entrepreneurs work hard to build a sterling reputation in their market, and then they become complacent. They start resting on their laurels, and they begin to let their hold on the market slip.

Unfortunately, complacency can lead to the demise of a business. It’s absolutely vital to stay on top of things regularly. Otherwise your competition is sure to spot your weakness and exploit it.
One thing you can always count on in the business world is competition.

Even in very small markets there can be fierce competition. Whether you’re selling something that’s hyper-competitive like weight loss solutions or a very small niche product like cactus growing information, you’re sure to have some competitors.

In fact, it’s possible that the competition could be fiercer if you enter a smaller market, because existing competitors may be more desperate to keep out new marketers! There are several ways you can work to secure your position in your market.

Perhaps the most important way is to keep your credibility and reputation as spotless as possible. This means you should constantly monitor the Internet for your name and your business name so that you can tackle any problems and find out if your competitors are trying to purposely tarnish your good name. You can use something like Google Alerts to inform you whenever something is posted about you anywhere on the Internet.

Your traffic is another very important factor you should constantly monitor. There are many ways your competitors could sabotage your traffic, and you should stay aware of any changes in your traffic levels.

Competitors have been known to report honest websites to Google, claiming they’re using black hat techniques even if they aren’t. They may conduct spam link campaigns, getting your site all sorts of very low quality backlinks from free for all sites and other bad neighborhoods in an attempt to sabotage your search engine rankings.

They might contact your affiliates and tell them lies about you in order to lure your affiliates away. Never let your competitors have the upper hand. Keep an eye on your backlinks, your rankings, and your traffic levels.

You should never let your traffic stagnate. Many webmasters tend to stop growing their traffic once they achieve the rankings they want. This is a disastrous mistake. If you stop growing your backlinks, your competitors will surpass you.

If they continue gaining backlinks and you don’t, they could quickly surpass you in the SERPs, and you may not know it until it’s too late. Never become complacent when it comes to SEO. Keep growing your backlinks, submitting articles, adding new content, and tweaking your on-page SEO.

Another factor you should keep an eye on is your own mindset. Although this is one area your competitors can’t directly control, it’s important to make sure you keep yourself positive and focused.

What Does Your Big Picture Look Like?

September 3rd, 2008

Many entrepreneurs take their eye off the ball and find themselves letting their business slip. Most of the time, this is due to unclear goals and failing to see the big picture. They see their business making very little money, and they feel like it’s just not worth it.

The problem is, they’re just not seeing what could be. Sure, your business might be making only $200 per week now, but that’s with only 1 site. If you had 10 sites, you could be making $2,000 per week. With 100 sites, that could be $20,000 per week!

But it’s not only about money. Try to picture your ideal life. What type of business would you be running? What would you be known for? Would you be behind the scenes with a network of small sites quietly making you rich while you sleep, or would you be a guru that everyone respected and admired, with a few sites that each earned you hundreds of thousands of dollars every month?

You should make a list of your life’s goals. Don’t be vague, and don’t be too conservative. This is about creating a picture of your ideal life. Write down exactly what you picture your ideal life being like.

What type of home would you live in? What type of family would you have? What type of car would you drive? Would you travel often, or would you stay home and enjoy a house full of gadgets and toys? Write it all down!

Next, do the same thing for your business. Write down exactly how you’d make your money if you could do anything you wanted. Write down how much money you’d make, and how it would be made.

Would you work 60 hours per week or 4? Would you have a staff of 30 employees or would it be just you and a few freelancers you could call on when needed? Having clear, well-defined goals helps you see what could be if you keep at it.

It gives you a sense of purpose. It keeps you motivated. It’s not enough to say, “I want to make at least $10,000 per month.” Believe it or not, for most people, money isn’t a powerful motivator.

The things they could buy are powerful motivators. The freedom they could have from a job or from a life of living off of social security and a tiny pension someday are very powerful motivators. But money itself is not.

You need to define what you want to have, but you should also define who you want to be. It’s important to decide now exactly what type of person you want to be. If you want to be a guru, call yourself a guru, even if you only do it in the privacy of your own home!

If you want to be “the King of Twitter,” then go after that title! Make it your motto. Do everything you can to grab that title and hang onto it. It’s not likely that anyone will just give you the title - you have to take it.

If you suddenly had everything you ever wanted tomorrow, would you recognize it? Do you have clear-cut goals and definable objectives? Do you know who you want to be and what you want to do?

Without these clear goals, you’ll have no purpose. It will be very difficult to stay motivated and accomplish anything, because you don’t even have a definition of what you need to accomplish! Keep a solid list of business and personal goals, and read it every day. This alone can keep you motivated for the long haul.
